Definition: Tone is the sound quality or attitude of the person that is speaking. Tone can be formal, serious, calm, or joyful.
Example:
If the child responded with a whiney "I'm going to the store!"
because he or she could simply not be bothered with
answering the mother's question, then the entire meaning of
the situation changes.
Significance: Tone is what makes the writing sounds like.
It gives us clues about what the background is. Every single
literature writing has a tone. If the tone sounds evil, then the
tone of the writing may be depressing.
